Bookish (2011-2012)

In Labyrinth of Liberty, Enrique Chagoya combined images of Maya gods and Aztec pyramids with alien space ships and airplanes. He disrupted the customary way we read by using the format of the Precolumbian codex (meant to be followed from right to left) and thus challenged the unconscious application of Western perspective when trying to decipher and understand history. Here, Chagoya unraveled earlier narratives to weave together his own satirical chronicles.
